“Impossible Cities” is a series of digital paintings which explore architectural themes in alternate worlds. These are part of a larger narrative project I’ve been developing over the last several years.
"All the cities in the world are but figments of someone's imagination, their foundations only as strong as people's desire to continue living in them. Left to their own, they crumble to dust and rubble, for though they may last a thousand years, they are no more permanent than the people who built them. The moment of a city's inception includes the seed of its self-destruction, ready to be nurtured either from within or without. This element is necessary, of course, for like the human condition, good cannot exist without evil. It is what brings greatness or infamy to a city that allows it to live on beyond its physical life.
There is no ideal city, only moments of synchronicity when all the forces that shape a city are aligned for greatness; without exception, these moments are fleeting."
